What i'm wearing: Spider-Man Suit - Opposuits, Shoes - Apt 9 "Blitzkrieg Bop" Dear readers, As you all know, by the time this is posted, I will most likely be in bed resting up post surgery, so I can save my energy to watch the film event of the decade. It is no secret that I am HUGE nerd. Specifically for Disney, Star Wars and Marvel. Then again, Disney owns all of these so i'm a Disney fan in general. My friends at Oppo Suits seem to make a great team with me. The innovative minds that came up with the idea of Marvel suits must have known that I would adore them. Last year Spider-Man and Peter Parker came home to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a world where he can live with the Avengers. Now we get to see him play alongside iconic characters such as Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Star lord, Groot, Scarlet Witch, Black Widow, The Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man and more. What I love about Spidey being apart of this universe is now I can grow with him yearly. I looked back at my diary and saw the state of mind I was in when Spider-man Homecoming was released last year. Now we are here a year later and my all time favorite superhero is once again returning to the silver screen with a bunch of other iconic heroes I read about growing up. The world may be ending in Infinity War, but the hope these heroes give me, especially now in a remission state of mind, means the world to me. As you all know I was 7 when I first got into comics. The first 3 superheroes I ever read about was Spider-Man, Batman, & Daredevil. I also got this issue of a team called The Avengers. It was issue 314 and they were in space fighting Nebula and her bandits. I remember being fascinated that this teenager was in space alongside a man dressed in red white and blue and dude with a hammer. His wit along with the adults reminded me so much of myself. I grew up around a lot of adults and seeing this young kid stand alongside these heroes that he looked up to reminded me so much of my life. Now as an adult I see the circle of life and the chain reaction from my love of comics and superheroes as kid. My nephews are growing up in a world they can play with lightsabers, imagine their classmates are minions, raising Mickey Mouse as their baby or jumping on the stairs to save MJ from the green goblin. I see my childhood come to life right before my eyes all over again. Spider-Man is a major part of my life still, due to the fact I am with my nephews weekly. If anything, my boys made me fall even more in love with this character. I didn't even know that was possible. My boys come in my office room and say look at Uncle DD's Spidaman collection. Yes, Spidaman not Spider-Man. My nephew Tyson always asks questions about Peter Parker and why did Uncle Ben have to die? Why is the Vulture doing these bad things? How come Peter Parker upset Iron Man? Why didn't Peter Parker accept the offer to be an Avenger? As I answer these questions I realize more and more that these films and the stories within them teach serious life lessons. My 6 year old nephew is learning about the struggles of life through this character. I think that is how I learned about life growing up and falling in love with Spider-Man at 7 years old. Peter Parker is just a normal guy who is doing his best to make his mark on the world. That is where I bring his narrative into mine. We are both doing our best to make our mark. Peter Parker and Spider-Man inspire me to rise up to own my place in this world alongside my older peers that I look up to. Not only that, he shows me I can stand alongside them and be on their level but remain on my distinct path. As I go though the aftermath of my operation, I use this young guy in a spandex suit as my tour guide to move forward on this path called life. No matter how old I get, I will always have Spider-Man and I will always look up and look to Peter Parker as my hero. Is it weird that I shed a tear as I typed that last part? I love the suit i'm wearing, I needed this suit to feel a little bit more like Peter, especially since I was about to get operated on. All my life i've waited to see Peter Parker stand alongside these iconic heroes. Finally I get to see it play out on screen. I love Marvel with all my heart. Spidey and all the heroes have been a mental escape for me, especially these last 4 years. I can't wait to see all these unique individuals stand up against this big headed purple Alien. If he was red it would seem like the world we live in today huh? lol. Last time I wrote about Spidey, I ended it with a sense of hope. I will do that again here. Because regardless of the outcome of this film, I know that my boys are going to continue growing up in world where spidey and the Avengers are going to lead the way and show us right from wrong. I'm going to leave the cinema with a renewed amount of hope to continue "taking my time" to fight my battle as these heroes continue fighting theirs on the silver screen.
