About Screen X Movie Screens It is a panoramic, 270-degree cinema experience that allows movies to expand beyond the main screen by utilizing a proprietary system that projects feature films on the side walls as well. You can get a taste of what this will be like by viewing this trailer: https://youtu.be/EZyQF0-mxcc "Bad Moon Rising" (feat. WB Pictures "The Nun" and Screen X Theaters) Dear readers, Fall is in full motion here in San Fran. Leaves have been falling in random places all over the city. It's always cold here so layers are always in. I love oversized sweaters so that's gonna be a go to for me. I've been recuperating from weeks of adventures all over the city. Fall is my favorite season. From the colors to the endless outfit combos, to the scary yet, in a weird way, heartwarming holiday films that play on endless repeat starting September 1st. Well, some of them are straight up scary, but hey, a good scare from an entertaining plot can be good. Warner Brothers reached out to invite me to the grand opening of this Screen X theater located in Dublin which is outside of SF. I figured I'd get out of the city for the day and attend this opening of this lavish futuristic theater. I have always wanted to see a film in this setting. I sometimes fall in a youtube hole and watch people experience these type of theaters in Asia, where they originate. I never thought the first movie i'd see would be a spin off of that creepy af nun from the conjuring. Yes, the movie I saw was "The Nun". I was shook to the core seeing this horror unfold, on not just one screen, but 3. Honestly... it was so fun though. Plus seeing Violet from American Horror Story and Auggie from Girl Meets World, aka 2 of tv's most iconic shows, it made this film even better seeing actors I love get shook along with us, the audience. Halloween is the perfect time for a good fun scare, I mean "IT" still freaks the shit out of me, but at least I know Billy Skarsgard looks fine af underneath that horrid Pennywise makeup. It may not seem like it, but I grew up with a lot of supernatural in my life. I could sit here and write about it for hours, but i'll cut some corners for time limits. I'll tell you just a little to have you hooked to my classic upbringing. When I was younger our elders would always tell us true supernatural stories from back home on Guam. Now, I haven't been to Guam since I was kid, but I can tell you some of the locations I vividly remember were very creepy. If you are from Guam, you know these stories and these creatures they talk about. When I was around 11/12, my Auntie Terry gave me this "Legends of Guam" book. I still have it and tell these stories to the younger kids so they know there is always more the story, always life beyond the life we live here. I know that probably sounds like a line from the movie "Coco", but I'm serious. Tao Tao Monas are real af. My mom would always talk about this little girl who went missing in her neighborhood when she was a kid. This girl made friends with a tao tao mona, think casper the friendly ghost, but scarier. BTW, I legit have chills right now writing this, no joke, i'm scared and shook to the core. I have to turn the lights on cause i'm actually scared right now. Anyways... back to the story. The girl went missing but they somehow found her behind a refrigerator. The fridge had just a few inches between the wall and her. You would say it is impossible for a human or any living being to fit behind such tight quarters. This friend that the girl made, wanted to take her to live with other "friends" on the other side. Now we don't know what happened, but one could assume that this girl probably figured out something was wrong and tried to get out of this mess she got herself into it. Looks like she was too late. When they found this girl her body was shrunk and flat enough that she could fit behind this fridge. Her mouth was open wide like she had just seen the scary nun from the movie I just saw today. She wasn't able to speak. She was basically frozen and everyone around her knew that a tao tao mona had come for her. It was so bad that they called the local priest. The priest did his thing and cast this freaky tao tao mona away. With time the girl returned to normal, and to top it off she didn't remember who was the friend she met on the other side. My mom says this girl and her are around the same age, and she grew up to be happy and healthy never having to experience that bad juju that she went through again. That's just a short summarized version of the story, but it is indeed true. In the legends book that I have, they talk about these rocks all over Guam that the tao tao moans live by. They come out when they see a person they find fascinating. My own sister experienced a tao tao mona when she was a kid. My mom and her were home alone one night and my mom was in the kitchen. She came out to the living room and saw my sister jumping up and down on the couch playing. She told my mom she was playing with her friends that she had made. My mom could see no one. That's when she knew they were in the house. It is custom that when they are in or around the house that they put salt around so they can be banished. It was too little too late. That night my sister woke up screaming. The tao tao mona's had pinched her. My mom said my sister had the biggest bruise and got really sick. She had a high fever. It wasn't until she talked to my dad that the fever went down and things returned to normal. My sister left Guam with this bruise that didn't go away for months. She doesn't remember this even happened to her. That's the thing about these encounters with these spirit creatures, other people remember, but if you experience it yourself, you forget. I guess I would like to forget if this happened to me, then again, WHY WOULD I WANT THIS TO HAPPEN TO ME. You know what I mean?... People always say my dad has tao tao mona in him. Hence why my sisters high fever went down. My dad doesn't really get scared of things, it doesn't bother him. Everybody says that about him. When he was younger my dad got really sick and wasn't able to walk for a bit. It wasn't until my grandma started this prayer that to this day we have to say every January to keep him healthy. The prayer healed him back in the day, but you can't not say it is a coincidence that my dad is the way he is today. One of those things did something, and i'm pretty sure apart of it somehow stuck with him, at least a good part of it. One thing I learned is, not all tao tao moans are bad. Some are actually nice, but still, the ones who thrive off of doing bad things in their after life, need a new hobby. Then again, we wouldn't have stories to tell. So maybe they can keep it PG-13? One could wish... There is so may other supernatural stories from the island that I could retell. From 2 lovers point, to the white lady, and more, along with some of my own stories too... but that's for another page and another day. I'm already creeped out to the max and I need a cleanse. I'm probably gonna go watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse to cleanse my supernatural of a day. At least Goofy can keep me calm, lol. All in all it was a good day. I just had to look around 3x more to make sure I wasn't being stalked by a creepy ghost as I re entered BART to take me back to SF for another eventful week. Geez, I never thought I would actually write about our family and our island's supernatural connections. But hey, it is Fall. It's the time to tell stories to our loved ones and get spooked every now and then. It's fun, admit it, you know it is too. Plus I'm super pumped for Halloween now. Maybe I can run into Madison Montgomery from American Horror Story, or The Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus, or Billy Skarsgard as Pennywise, and yes even Valak aka the Nun from the Conjuring Universe. Not that I would want to run into these people... maybe on a trick or treat run... lol...
